Over two hundred years of contemplative living

We are a women's contemplative community in the tradition of St. Teresa of Avila and St. John of the Cross.  As the oldest Roman Catholic community of religious women in the original thirteen states (founded in 1790), Baltimore Carmel is the foundation to which approximately three-quarters of the monasteries of Discalced Carmelite Nuns in the U.S. trace their origins.
