Because many medieval myths attribute him with founding the Order on Mt
Carmel, we honor Elijah as our spiritual father.
The women and men at the top right are contemporary Carmelites-- saints of
today. Depicted among them are two women from this monastery, Mary Magdalen
Brunck and Celine Arnold.

about the year 1209 Albert authorized a rule for the brothers who were living
on Mt Carmel. This text, also known as the "Primitive Rule" is the
spiritual document that guides the entire Carmelite family.
