The Carmelite Nuns of Baltimore

Living a life of contemplative prayer

Vision

Spiritual Direction

Carmelite nuns have guided people in their prayer life, at least informally, from the time of Teresa of Avila to the present. Today women and men of all ages approach the community and individual sisters seeking spiritual direction within the context of Carmelite spirituality and our contemplative experience. We do offer spiritual direction and companionship to the extent that we can and as our individual schedules allow.

It is our hope that in this way we will contribute to a broader understanding of spiritual growth and help those who share their search for God with us to open their lives to the kind of transformation and communion with God that will, in a mysterious hidden way, influence the evolution of consciousness within the whole of humanity.

In spiritual direction, we make very concrete our community decision to try to provide contemporary interpretations of our spiritual tradition, the great mystical writings of Teresa, John of the Cross, Therese of Lisieux, Edith Stein and other holy Carmelites.

If you would like to embark on the journey of spiritual direction with one of our sisters, please fill out the following form.
